Growing Your Town: Buildings, Storage and Harvesting

A small town of timber houses seen from above

Your town works for you even when you are not playing. Every building earns over time, so a little planning means more gold and shards for your deck. This guide explains how income works, what each building does and the best order to build them.

How town income works

Each building earns over time and keeps what it makes in its own storage. When the storage is full, that building stops until you come back. Click a building to harvest it, or press Harvest all to take everything at once.

There is no tapping and no clicking for coins. The town is meant to be relaxing: you build, you leave, you come back and collect.

How much storage does a building hold?

Storage is measured in hours of income, and it grows with the building's level:

  • Level 1 holds 24 hours of income.
  • Level 2 holds 30 hours.
  • Level 3 holds 36 hours.
  • Level 4 holds 48 hours.
  • Level 5 holds 72 hours.

So if you visit once a day, you lose nothing even with new buildings, and a level 5 building happily survives a long weekend. Upgrading raises income and storage together, which makes upgrades better than they first look.

Every building explained

Lord's Manor

Your home and the heart of the town. It cannot be demolished. Each upgrade earns +1 gold per hour.

Lantern Cottage

A cheap home for your townsfolk that earns +1 gold per hour for each level. Every 2 other Cottages touching it add +1 gold per hour, so Cottages like to sit together.

Market Hall

The main gold building, earning +2 gold per hour for each level. Each Cottage touching it adds +1 gold per hour, which makes a Market surrounded by Cottages your best early income.

Grand Warehouse

Gives every building 10% more storage for each level, and each building touching it adds another 2%. Build one when your storage fills up before you can visit.

Card Atelier

Makes shards, earning 1 shard every 5 hours for each level. A Mystic Fountain touching it adds more. Shards let you forge the exact card you want, so they are worth starting early.

Mystic Fountain

Earns 2 shards every 5 hours for each level, and touching Markets and Cottages earn +1 gold per hour. It is expensive, but it helps everything around it.

Training Yard

Earns +1 renown per hour for each level, so your lord rises through the noble titles even on days you do not fight. You can only build one.

Use your neighbours

Buildings earn bonuses from the buildings touching them. Touching means all eight plots around a building, corners included, which is the same rule your characters use in battle.

That makes the middle of your town the most valuable land, because a building there can touch eight others. The build list shows the bonus for the plot you selected before you spend anything, so try a few spots. A strong start is a Market Hall in the middle with Cottages packed around it.

Made a mistake? You can move a building for a small fee, or demolish it for half of what you spent. The Manor can move but cannot be demolished.

What to build first

  1. Build a Cottage or two. They are cheap and pay for themselves quickly.
  2. Add a Market Hall, touching those Cottages.
  3. Follow the town goals, which pay gold, shards and even rubies.
  4. Add a Card Atelier so shards start to build up.
  5. Add the Training Yard for steady renown.
  6. Add a Grand Warehouse once storage is the thing holding you back.
  7. Add a Mystic Fountain beside your Markets and Cottages.

Should you build or upgrade?

Each extra copy of a building costs 1.5 times as much as the last, for both building and upgrading. So your third Cottage is a lot pricier than your first, and spreading out across different buildings is usually better than stacking one kind. Upgrades also raise storage, so once your favourite spots are taken, upgrading them is a strong use of gold.

Town goals

The town always shows you one goal at a time, and each one pays a reward: gold, shards or rubies. They walk you through everything from your first Market to the highest town ranks, and one even pays a free Legendary. If you are not sure what to do next, do the goal.

Greet your visitors

A peddler sometimes rolls through town with a cart, up to 6 times a day. Click the peddler before the cart leaves for a small gift of gold, shards or renown. It is a nice reward for looking around your town.

Town ranks

Your town's rank comes from the total level of all your buildings:

  • Hamlet: the start
  • Village: 6 levels
  • Market Town: 12 levels
  • City: 20 levels
  • Capital: 32 levels
  • Royal Seat: 50 levels
  • Realm of Legend: 80 levels

Reaching each rank is a town goal of its own, and the later ones pay rubies.

How the town helps your deck

Battles and the town pay about the same, so you can lean on whichever you enjoy more. Gold buys packs, card upgrades and town buildings. Shards forge the exact card you want. Rubies, won from town goals and renown, only unlock cosmetics such as Crimson frames and special board styles.

Put that income to work with our deck building guide, or open the game and harvest what your town has made.
